As I am from TN, this perked my interest. IMO, it could very well be possible. Searched a bit, and it seems folk think Womick exaggerates a bit or is this just a tactic to shut him down?

Quote :

State Rep. Rick Womick, R-Rockvale, told the State Government Subcommittee that an electromagnetic pulse (EMP) bomb was detonated in Tennessee nearly two years ago. However, there is no record of that ever happening, the Tenn. Department of Safety and Homeland Security (DSHS) and the Shelbyville Times-Gazette said today.

On March 20, while attempting to pass HB 1327, Womick explained what an EMP bomb is — an intense pulse of electromagnetic radiation that will destroy electronics, but not humans — to the subcommittee. It's what he said next that has confused many people:

We had one go off just down outside of Shelbyville. It'll be two years this summer. Nobody knows about it — was in the paper. One day, in a column about that big in the Shelbyville Times. That EMP bomb — made off the internet, suitcase sized — wiped out a 5-mile radius of everything that was electronic. That means your cellphone, telephones, your electronic ignition on your cars, television — anything having to do with electronics is fried. That means there's no communication. A terrorist attack would follow such an EMP blast.

Fascinating, I wonder where he got his 'facts' as there isno record of such an event. -Mort

Having a prob with embedding the vid - sorry guys.

After a bit of research, it seems there is no record from the Shelbyville Gazette - so maybe he got his source wrong? I am unsure but checking it out, I did find a power outage during the time frame he mentioned !

It states "At one point nearly 12,000 homes and businesses were without electricity."
The link is here:

So could it have been true? Did he have inside info and let it slip?

ETA: An event that happened at wjkm radio and surrounding area... in Hartsville, TN , 2001 . In this case it fried lots of birds... Very mysterious and still unsolved today.

Electromagnetic Pulse Hits Central Tennessee News & Analysis by J.J. Johnson 07.12.01

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Leave it to a country music radio station to report a story that has hardly been reported anywhere else. Evidence that has been gathered leads to the conclusion that what is known as an electromagnetic pulse (EMP) hit the small town of Hartsville, Tennessee.

According to WJKM, the incident happened at about 10:45 am local time last Friday (07.06.01). The radio station was knocked off the air, but that was only the beginning of the damage that was uncovered later.

Lightning can be ruled out, and it occurred under a clear blue sky.

Phone lines, computer circuits and networks were fried throughout the area, notably at the local radio station and the newspaper, the Hartsville Vidette located next door.

The sales manager of WJKM Radio reported hearing a loud electrical overload sound before the power blackout. There was no blown transformer near the radio station. The closest burned transformer was at least three city blocks from the building. This would be due to a main transformer overloading. In many cases in the past, a huge overload sound can be heard - sounding like the familiar 60-cycle AC hum.

"These surges are not just coming into the power lines," It stated on the radio station's web site. "They are also entering the radio station through phone lines and the antenna system. This is evident in blown telephone equipment. Sometimes the equipment is not destroyed but the program settings are scrambled or wiped out."

The editor of the Vidette said she was sitting with her back to the window. She heard a loud roaring sound like an overload and something came through the window and a flash of light went through the entire building.

Listeners of the radio station called in with clues that possibly a federal nuclear facility might be the source on the problem.

The Hartsville nuclear power plant site, located about 5 miles away was supposedly never finished. The construction of the plant came to an abrupt halt some years back leaving the community devastated. According to the federal government, the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) only uses the area as a storage facility. Yet there have been listener reports of hearing strange humming sounds coming from the location. Listeners have also seen strange objects overhead and claimed to have seen triangular shaped craft and military C-130's heading in as if to land or leaving the area nose up as if they have just taken off.

"There are no visible places for a C-130 to land or take off. We have searched the area as well as we could. "

There is some speculation that this could be caused by metros coming into the atmosphere. Jon Roland, a computer electronics expert and amateur astronomer, says there have been similar reports in the past, and many of them have been associated with large meteors, which can explode in the upper atmosphere with the explosive output of a nuclear device and enough EMP to fry electronics. "There are several such events every year, usually away from settled areas. Sooner or later, however, one can cause damage on the ground, even if the solid core doesn't make it to the surface. One of the tasks of missile warning systems has been to distinguish these natural phenomena from actual nuclear devices, " says Roland.

However, The U.S. has been testing and using smaller electronic magnetic pulse weapons since at least the mid 1980s. Russian officials noted (and protested) that such weaponry was used in the attacks against Yugoslavia to test a range of new weapons under battlefield conditions. These include the billion-dollar B2 stealth bomber.

The purpose of the EMP weapon is ostensibly to disrupt an enemy's electronics and communications in order to weaken their defensive capability. But it can also have serious effects on people. They were reportedly used against the anti-U.S. bases demonstrators at Greenham Common, England where the side-effects ranged from nose bleeding and hair loss to miscarriages and cancer.

According to the radio station, listeners have called in saying there has apparently been an increase in what they are calling fibromyalgia. This is a controversial and some say hypothetical disease that describes an unexplainable, severe and disabling pain throughout the entire body over recent years, as well as an increase in headaches mimicking migraines.

Similarly, electromagnetic radiation anomalies were seen during the same time from Edwards Air Force based in California.

The EMP could not have happened from the power company, or even a nuclear power plant. Computer circuits and electrical grids are grounded. More importantly, this pulse seems to cook birds right out of the sky.

"f the birds were sitting on an electrical wire and were hit by a surge their legs would have been burned off! These birds have legs. It's their wings and feathers that are burned, singed or missing! It appears to us these birds were cooked in flight! But by what?" the radio station asks.

Even with electrical surges, most birds would not be harmed sitting on electrical wires carrying up to 50,000 volts. Photographic evidence shows birds in a 5 mile area with serious burns on the wings - birds that from all evidence were flying in the air before the incident occurred.

Interesting. Maybe it was a real attack seeing as how the government only likes to talk about the ones they seem to be involved in. I wonder if any EMP tech has gone missing from scientific research facilities around that time. This just makes me think of how they used an EMP to knock out the power to Vegas in the movie Ocean's 11. I'll have to look into this some more when I get some time. Thanks for posting this interesting news.
