PostSubject: 8-year-old follows Tenn. lawmaker around Capitol until he drops welfare bill   Sat Apr 13, 2013 4:02 pm

Quote :
A Tennessee lawmaker has relented and agreed to drop his bill linking academic performance to the family’s welfare benefits after an 8-year-old girl shamed him by following him around the state Capitol.

On his way to vote on Thursday, state Sen. Stacey Campfield (R) was confronted by 8-year-old homeschooler Aamira Fetuga, who presented him with a petition signed by people opposing his welfare bill, according to the Tennessean. Nearby, a choir of about 60 activists sang “Jesus Loves the Little Children.”

“You are so weak, to not listen to a child,” a parent said as Campfield walked away with the girl following.

“Why do you want to cut benefits for people?” 8-year-old Fetuga asked after she caught up with him on a Capitol escalator. ...

Under Campfield’s bill, families could have lost up to 30 percent of welfare benefits from the Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF) program if a child did not attend school regularly and make “satisfactory academic progress.”

OOh Rah!

OOh Rah!

We should populate the halls of Congress with little kids. At least they'd be honest. Heya Lou!

Heya, Bob! I hear that lol!
(If that had been an adult following him around, he would have been charged on stalking or harassment , eh?)

I truly think the bill was ridiculous - He may even try to push for it next year though ..IMO, this is NOT the solution.

Does the guy not realize that there are divorced , single parents who are struggling with finances, etc. that may have to work a night, who are unable to attend the school meetings, etc? Having to choose from losing a days wages or lose their food? I don't think he thought this through completely.

Also some children may not be as intelligent as others . Does he not know how this would affect the child putting a heavy burden upon him or her if they didn't make the grade even though they did their very best?!!
And then to punish them by this cutting of funding.... He is one loony toon that needs to go!
I understand there are SOME dead beat parents in this world etc, but in the end , this bill of cutting their funds, isn't going to make ANYone a better parent. It would be taking from and hurting the children!

ETA Haven't had my joe yet lol.. forgot to mention: Great live shows, Bob! Lk fwd to tonight's The Truth is Viral show ! For those who are reading , a reminder to tune in at 11pm EST/10 CST @ http://www.livestream.com/TTivLIVE !

Gung Ho , Ooh Rah and Semper Fi!
