DEA conducting raids in my hometown. Empty
PostSubject: DEA conducting raids in my hometown.   DEA conducting raids in my hometown. EmptyThu Sep 06, 2012 4:57 pm

I am posting this because I actually want to give the DEA props in this matter. They raided a doctors office in my hometown today because the doctor has been dealing prescription drugs illegally. At least that is the speculation at this moment. This doctor is an asshole. My wife worked for the man for a short time and it was a horrible experience for her. I am glad to see that this moron was busted. This is a good example of Law Enforcement doing the right thing and not screwing it up for once.

"Federal agents raided a Chelsea doctor's office Wednesday, but details were scant.

Drug Enforcement Agency group supervisor Andrew Eiseman confirmed Thursday a federal search warrant was executed at the office of Dr. Anthony Choe Wednesday morning.

The agency could not comment on the nature of the raid or what was taken from the office of the family practitioner because it's an ongoing investigation, Eiseman said.

Manchester resident Sandy Goosby said she was driving near the office, located at 1600 Commerce Park Drive, Wednesday morning around 9:30 or 10 a.m. and saw officers, patrol cars and police tape.

"(The officers) were carrying out big black bags," she said.

The offices were closed Wednesday when AnnArbor.com called. On Thursday, the receptionist who answered had no comment."

Good for them!

In the past I've made no secret that I have ongoing medical issues, as does my wife, which have at times required both of us to use opiates to control the pain. While I haven't taken opiates for pain control for over 5 years, I can't remember most of 1999 as I was in the middle of a series of operations that enabled me to get out of my wheelchair and was taking enough Oxycontin to kill an African village; so I know whereof I speak. I know first hand that opiates can be addictive and extremely dangerous; but sometimes they are necessary in order to prevent crippling, tortuous pain.

I have also been very critical of the DEA for interfering in the doctor/patient relationship, intimidating doctors to the point where they are literally afraid to prescribe narcotics for their patients for fear of losing their license or being imprisoned simply for being compassionate. With all of the paperwork that goes into managing pain with narcotics, and the computers that correlate, cross-reference, and categorize patients and doctors, I would think it would be a simple matter to weed out those "doctors" that operate pill mills, imprison them, and let legitimate pain specialists get on with their work. I'd like to see the DEA balance the legitimate need to prevent the diversion and abuse of opiates with the even more legitimate need that patients have to control pain, that in many cases must be unnecessarily endured because doctors are too afraid to manage it correctly.

There is NO REASON for people to have to live in pain, and the DEA needs to turn their attention to those doctors that are just trying to make a profit instead of intimidating ALL of them, especially the ones who are only trying to ease the pain of their patients. One means of intimidation is unique to those states - including Michigan - that have legalized medical marijuana. A doctor who prescribes opiates for pain control will not (can not) also prescribe marijuana, and those who do prescribe medical MJ can not also prescribe opiates, even though the government's own research prove marijuana to be an effective pain killer (even more so than Oxycontin or Fentynal for some conditions) - not to mention A CURE FOR CANCER!

...The ominous part is that this isn't the first time scientists have discovered that THC shrinks tumors. In 1974 researchers at the Medical College of Virginia, who had been funded by the National Institute of Health to find evidence that marijuana damages the immune system, found instead that THC slowed the growth of three kinds of cancer in mice -- lung and breast cancer, and a virus-induced leukemia.

The DEA quickly shut down the Virginia study and all further cannabis/tumor research, according to Jack Herer, who reports on the events in his book, "The Emperor Wears No Clothes." In 1976 President Gerald Ford put an end to all public cannabis research and granted exclusive research rights to major pharmaceutical companies, who set out -- unsuccessfully -- to develop synthetic forms of THC that would deliver all the medical benefits without the "high."

Smoking Pot Shrinks Tumors: Gov't Has Known Since 1974

The active chemical in marijuana promotes the death of brain cancer cells by essentially helping them feed upon themselves, researchers in Spain report.

Guillermo Velasco and colleagues at Complutense University in Spain have found that the active ingredient in marijuana, THC, causes brain cancer cells to undergo a process called autophagy. Autophagy is the breakdown of a cell that occurs when the cell essentially self-digests.

The team discovered that cannabinoids such as THC had anticancer effects in mice with human brain cancer cells and people with brain tumors. When mice with the human brain cancer cells received the THC, the tumor growth shrank.

Marijuana Chemical May Fight Brain Cancer

I'm 100% sure that the reason pot is still illegal is because the powerful pharmaceutical lobby doesn't want people to be able to grow effective medicine in the own homes; they want people who are suffering to be forced to buy their insanely priced medications instead. As much as I hate to say it, I think these assholes in Big Pharma and the DEA that are preventing people from obtaining adequate pain relief should all get cancer, or break their back, or have to live with crippling pain; and then be denied effective methods to control that pain. I bet they'd change their tune about pot pretty damned quick.
