Weird Weather Experienced Yesterday-Jan 17, 2013 Thundersnow

We were under a winter weather warning advisory yesterday.
The weird part was the thunder booms and lightning with the sleet.
The temp was like 35 or so at the time it happened. It was definitely strange imo.

Have only recently heard of this term "Thundersnow" but had never experienced it until yesterday. Did a bit of research and it seems to me that thundersnow is happening more these days < I saw several reports) and it said to be extremely rare to occur. Curious as to Why it seems to be happening moreso now... at least this is MY take on the subject.

We never got the expected snow accumulation either btw!

Wiki states Thundersnow is a rare event and even rarer with sleet.

I have seen thundersnow every year for the last five years or so. It is quite interesting when it happens. I think it is proof that our overall weather is becoming more extreme each year. Last year we had an f-3 tornado in early march as well. That is very unussual for this area.

Wow really ? Every year ? I read that it was known to happen in Michigan,/ Great Lakes area so figured one of you guys had experienced but wow. To me, this is a change and makes it ''commonplace'' and not so rare anymore.

And this is " rarity" is happening a LOT of places from the looks of the reports I have read..

Weather definitely gone wild. Kind of like "Obummer" - ya never know which way it will twist, turn and strike next!
